Slack
Audience: All users
Goal: Ask PrismBI analytics questions from Slack and read answers in thread.
Your tenant admin connects Slack from the Admin Portal. Once Slack is connected, you link your PrismBI account once, then ask questions without opening the Analyze page.
Link your account (one-time)
- Message PrismBI in Slack (or mention @PrismBI in an allowed channel).
- If you are not linked yet, PrismBI replies with a link to the Admin Portal.
- Sign in, confirm your tenant, and click Link my account.
- Return to Slack. If you had a question waiting, PrismBI may resume it automatically; otherwise ask again.
Linking ensures queries run with your data access and credits—the same rules as Analyze.
Ask in a direct message
- In Slack, open Apps → PrismBI → Messages (or search for PrismBI).
- Type your question in plain text. You do not need to
@mention the bot in a DM. - PrismBI replies in the same conversation thread.
Tip: @PrismBI mentions do not work in direct messages—Slack delivers DMs differently from channel mentions. Use plain text in the DM.
Ask in a channel
- In a channel your admin has allow-listed, mention @PrismBI and type your question.
- PrismBI answers in a thread on your message.
If the bot does not respond, the channel may not be on the allow-list—ask your tenant admin to add the channel ID under Integrations → Messaging.
Attach files
You can attach supported files with a short question—the same types as File uploads:
- CSV, TSV, TXT
- XLS, XLSX
Example: attach a spreadsheet and write “Summarize revenue by month from this file.”
If you are not linked yet, complete account linking first, then re-send the file with your question.
What to expect
- PrismBI may send a short “working on it” style acknowledgment while your query runs.
- Answers appear in thread with summaries, tables, and charts when relevant.
- Casual messages (for example, “thanks”) get a brief reply without starting a full analytics query.
- Credits and limits apply the same as in Analyze.
Tips
- Ask concrete questions (“Q2 revenue by region”) for faster, more accurate answers.
- Follow up in the same Slack thread to continue the conversation context.
- For recurring warehouse questions, your admin may set a default datasource so you do not need to name it each time.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | What to try |
|---|---|
| Link prompt every time | Complete Link my account while signed in to the correct tenant |
| No response in DM | Use plain text, not @PrismBI; confirm your admin connected Slack |
| No response in channel | Confirm the channel is allow-listed; mention @PrismBI in the message |
| File ignored after linking | Re-send the attachment with your question |
| Query blocked | Check credits with your admin; see Credits & limits |
